George RR Martin's Wild Cards PeregrinePEREGRINE

The world's most famous Wildcarder and presenter of the long-running TV talk show, 'Peregrine's Perch', is a tall, stunningly attractive woman with large, beautifully feathered wings. She also weighs half as much as you might think, due to hollow bones and a tendency to wear as little as possible, whenever possible. And she can fly.

To her credit, she actually considers herself to be a Joker rather than an Ace, although the rest of the planet disagrees with her on this one. How many Jokers look that good and are capable of flight? And despite being involved in several public melees over the years, she isn't actually much help in a crisis - but, hey, it looks good on TV, right?

Positive attributes - Genuinely decent person behind the superficial facade, strong-willed.
Negative character traits - Shallow, impulsive.
Main appearances - Aces Abroad.
Supporting appearances - Aces High, Jokers Wild, Down and Dirty, Marked Cards, Deuces Down, Death Draws Five, Inside Straight.
In a nutshell - Superstar.
Random quote - '(Flying's) the second best feeling there is, and afterward you never have to change the sheets.'

George RR Martin's Wild Cards PopinjayPOPINJAY (Jay Ackroyd)

A brown-haired, nondescript man in a well-worn suit you wouldn't give a second glance to if you passed in the street. And that's exactly how he wants it. Jay also has an edge over his private-eye contemporaries in that he's a projecting teleport. All he has to do is point his finger at you, think of a place he knows, and 'pop', you're there already. The name makes sense now, doesn't it?

Although he's one of the good guys, sooner or later he rubs everyone the wrong way. Ten minutes of his attitude and/or wisecracks and you're ready to 'pop' him one. Try and resist the temptation, though. He's fairly free and easy with his ability and before you know it, you'll find yourself in a small cell with a large man called Bubba giving you the fish eye.

Positive attributes - Honourable, trustworthy, discreet, honest, generally does the right thing.
Negative character traits - Sanctimonious, moralistic, hypocritical, abrasive personality, generally says the wrong thing.
Main appearances - Dead Man's Hand, Double Solitaire, Black Trump.
Supporting appearances - Jokers Wild, Ace in the Hole, One-Eyed Jacks, Jokertown Shuffle, Marked Cards, Death Draws Five, Suicide Kings.
In a nutshell - Wiseass.
Random quote - 'Nobody likes me. That's why I had to get married.'

PUDDLEMAN (Bob Cortland)

Having emigrated from England as a child, Bob is now the owner and manager of the Greenwich Village comedy club, 'The Village Idiot'. He's also a Deuce blessed with the highly-coveted ability to relinquish his physical form and turn into a gelatinous puddle at will. That's right, a puddle. When in this aqueous form he can't breathe, see, hear or move very much, so don't expect to see him in action too often. And watch where you're walking.

Positive attributes - Trustworthy, honest, pragmatic, sense of humour.
Negative character traits - None to speak of.
Main appearances - Deuces Down.
Supporting appearances - None.
In a nutshell - Oozy does it.
Random quote - 'You wouldn't know repressed if it bit you in the ass, and it's probably the only thing that hasn't.'

PUPPETMAN (Gregg Hartmann)

Politicians generally aren't shy when it comes to feeding on other people's misery, but this guy's utilised his hidden Ace power to turn it into an art form. Say hello to the charismatic Senator Gregg Hartmann, the Wild Cards' resident villain and psychic vampire extraordinaire. The only difference between him and Ti Malice is his suits fit him better.

Hartmann gets off on his telepathic ability to amplify or suppress the emotions in anyone he's had physical contact with - and politicians just love shaking hands, don't they? - and thus, is able to bring the worst out of everyone he meets while smiling at the camera and looking noble. Repressed loathing is no longer repressed, while the merely violent become murderous all of a sudden. This possible future president's got a lot of skeletons in his closet. Still, he's probably no worse than the rest of the candidates out there.

Positive attributes - None.
Negative character traits - Psychopath, sadist, megalomaniac, mentally unstable, totally self-centred, weak-willed, pathological liar.
Main appearances - Wild Cards, Aces Abroad, Down and Dirty, Ace In The Hole, Marked Cards, Black Trump.
Supporting appearances - One-Eyed Jacks, Dealer's Choice.
In a nutshell - Master manipulator.
Random quote - 'Violence isn't going to solve anything.'
